Sightseeing / places to visit during your holidays in Paphos Cyprus
Paphos, with thousands of years of history and tradition, offers a lot of choices to the visitors. Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and Tombs of the Kings, both Unesco World Heritage sites, really deserve a visit. Kato Paphos harbour, one the area's halmarks, is also a place to visit. There is an ancient castle in the harbour area which you can visit and the Archaeological park is just next to the harbour. There are many restaurants and cafes, where you can eat or enjoy a beer of cold drink just next to the sea.
There are many monasteries and other religious places to visit. Three of them i would like to mention are the Saint Paul's pillar where, Saint Paul during his visit to Paphos was tied and received 39 (forty but one) lashes for evangelising Christianity on the island. The other two, Saint Neophytos monastery and Panagia Chrysorrogiatissa monastery, are both monasteries with history dating back more than a thousand years each, also well worth visiting.
According to tradition, Aphrodite, the ancient goddess of beauty, was born in Paphos area, so there are many places to visit that are connected with Aphrodite. Three places we suggest are Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's birthplace), The Temple of Aphrodite at Kouklia village and Aphrodite's Baths at Polis Chrysochous. All of them combine tradition with visits to beautiful places.
